CRISP-DM TO BE UPDATED!

Crisp-logoToday, CRISP-DM is the industry standard methodology for data mining and predictive analytics. As the role of data mining and predictive analytics continues to evolve, however, so must the CRISP-DM methodology.

You can help guide this evolution by participating in the CRISP-DM Update. Members of the original consortium will be actively involved, but the initiative needs your involvement, too! Only with a broad-based effort will the updating of CRISP-DM techniques and processes meet the needs of all organizations involved in data mining today.

As a participant, you’ll be among the first to benefit from refinements in the methodology. For example, you will:

  • Have early access to ways to make data mining results more accessible and usable in your organization
  • Ensure that the CRISP-DM process model addresses issues your organization has encountered when conducting data mining
  • Enjoy the challenge of shaping what is becoming an increasingly important methodology for organizations in business, government, education, and scientific researchYou can participate by joining the CRISP-DM 2.0 Special Interest Group (SIG). Signing up for the SIG does not commit you to any cost or specific activity, but being a member gives you the opportunity to participate in the CRISP-DM Update at a level that matches your expertise and commitment to data mining.

    1. Dear CRISP-DM 2.0 SIG Member,

We haven’t sent an update for some time, but we thought you would like to know that based on the SIG input from the US and European workshops and your feedback via the survey we ran, work on the CRISP-DM 2.0 update is progressing well. We hope to have a draft of the main changes ready from September. This new material will be available for review by SIG members, and we’ll be running further events and using electronic channels to obtain your feedback.

A hot topic at both SIG workshops was whether we should use a Wiki approach to help develop CRISP-DM 2.0 and its support materials. Based on the discussions, what we propose to do is:

      * publish the process model as a definitove reference document, which may not be updated as a Wiki.

      * use a Wiki approach to develop the new user guide, along with additional guidance and exemplar materials.

      * consider using Wiki as a platform for discussion of issues and content for a future CRISP-DM 2.0

To progress this, we’d like to form a Wiki Sub-Committee of SIG members to look at the issues involved in Wiki support for CRISP-DM and make recommendations for usage, administration, policies etc. If you would like to volunteer to serve on the Wiki Sub-Committee, please send an email to update-info@crisp-dm.org with “WIKI” in the subject line. A brief summary of your knowledge and experience in this area would be helpful. For practicality’s sake we may have to restrict the size of this group, so apologies in advance if we aren’t able to accept all volunteers.

Thank you for your continued interest in CRISP-DM, and for investing your time and effort to help us produce an updated version of the methodology that provides the best possible support for today’s practioners.

      The CRISP-DM Consortium
